Argentina Advances to Copa America Final
Defending Champions Defeat Canada
Goals from Alvarez and Messi Secure Victory
Defending champions Argentina have booked their place in the Copa America final after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Canada in the semifinals. Goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi gave Argentina the win and a chance to defend their title.
Argentina started the game brightly and took the lead in the 28th minute when Alvarez converted a penalty after Canada defender Alistair Johnston was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Messi doubled Argentina's lead just before half-time, curling a free-kick into the top corner.
Canada improved in the second half but could not find a way past Argentina's defense. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a number of crucial saves to keep Canada at bay and secure the victory for his team.
Argentina will now face either Uruguay or Colombia in the final on Sunday. Uruguay and Colombia will play their semifinal match later today.
Argentina will be looking to win their 15th Copa America title and their second in a row. They are the most successful team in the history of the tournament, having won it more times than any other nation.
