Monkeypox Cases Surge in Spain
Europe's Highest Tally Recorded
Madrid Reports 30 New Cases
Spain has become the European epicenter of the monkeypox outbreak, with the highest number of cases recorded since the beginning of the current global spread. On Friday, June 3, Spanish health authorities reported 30 new infections, bringing the total to over 300.
The majority of cases are concentrated in the capital city of Madrid, where authorities have identified 25 new infections on Thursday alone. Spain now has the second-highest number of monkeypox cases worldwide, behind only the United Kingdom.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency, and Spain is among the countries most affected. The virus is primarily transmitted through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials.
