Mum's Birmingham Airport Fears as Staff Shout 'Get Away from Windows' and No One Allowed In or Out

Airport descended into chaos after police cordoned off the check-in area

A Birmingham Airport was thrown into chaos yesterday when staff started shouting for people to "get away from windows" and the airport was evacuated after a man was reportedly seen acting suspiciously.

Travellers with young families reported being left stranded outside the airport with no food or water, with one mother saying she had to use a public bin to change her baby's nappy.

One airline worker, who asked not to be named, said: "I was working on the check-in desk when I heard a commotion. I looked up and saw a man running towards the window. The staff started shouting for people to get away from the windows and then the alarm went off. It was chaos."

Police cordoned off the check-in area and no one was allowed in or out

The incident happened at around 11am on Thursday, August 18. Police were called to the scene and cordoned off the check-in area. No one was allowed in or out of the airport for around two hours.

A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport said: "We can confirm that there was an incident at Birmingham Airport this morning. The police were called and the check-in area was cordoned off for a short period of time. The airport is now open and operating as normal."

The police have not yet released any details about the incident.
